When we think about technology and how it has changed over the most recent decades, its hard to imagine what things will be like 20, or even 10 years from now. Technology started from nothing at all until people began to invent things to meet their life’s basic needs, when we look at the world we are living in now, we have the world at our fingertips from wherever we are.Most people confuse the defenition of technology with technological devices such as computers or smart phones, however, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, technology refers to “the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area” (Merriam-Webster, 2018). This specific definition may be applied as far back as the Agricultural Revolution post hunter-gatherer humankind or into the very distant utopian or dystopian future. The Agricultural Revolution was a period of technological improvement and increased crop productivity that occured during the 18th and early 19th centuries in Europe. Historians labled the first Agricultural Revolution as the period of transition from a hunting-and-gathering society to one based on stationary farming. Irrigation helped promote the agriculture revolution by allowing water to be applied to plant whenever needed. They increased crop production and promoted healthier and stronger plants. The techniques include pumps for watering, which would be hooked up to either sprinklers or drip systems. The Agricultural Revolution made people invent technology in order to meet people’s basic needs including spur changes that increased production of food and growth of population. Technology can be simplified into a few different innovations; flying shuttle, spinning jenny, water frame, crompton’s mule, steam boat, and steam powered train. Industrial Revolution, in modern history, the process of change from an agarian and handicraft economy to one dominated by industry and machine manufacturing. In the 18th century, this process began and from there spread to other parts of the world. The Industrial Revolution had to do with harnessing new energy sources and using them to power machines. It lead to growth in urban development as people moved from the countrysides to the town to work in the new factories bulit to utilize the new machines for faster, mass production. There are some important and remarkable inventions created in the industrial revolution, such as the telegraph, telephone, first incandecent light bulb, induction electric motor, Diesel engine, and an ongoing list of all the inventions. Technological Revolution is, a relatively short period in history when one technology (or a better set of technologies) is placed by another technology (or by the set of technologies). It is an era of accelerated technological progress characterized not only by new innovations, but also their application and diffusion. So many technologies have appeared in the past half century that its impossible to list them all. But these high-tech breakthroughs stand out over the last few years because they’ve revolutionaized the way Americans live. We look back in the beginnings as well as where they’ve take us today. This generation is becoming increasingly connected to electronic devices. The Department of Rehabilitation sciences of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Hong Kong physiotherapy Association have conducted a study on the health effect of using smartphones and portable electronic devices among Hong Kong people. Most parents and guardians are trying to limit the time children spend on screens and on electronic devices after all the research that has been studied and analyzed carefully. As more existing technologies are stacked onto each other and developed into something greater, consumers and businesses alike can expect to see more opportunity with future technology. Technology will be faster, have the ability to accomplish more and everything will become more streamlined to make getting work done, easier. While we don’t have the ability to predict the future, we can offer speculations on technology’s evolution. We are constantly seeing emerging media and new trends in technology to follow. Many economists and sociologists have dedicated several papers to try to model and predict the social changes from possible future technologies. Robin Hanson has made an analysis of how whole brain emulation technologies would deliver a malthusian scenario of subsistence-level existence (Hanson, 1994). He also constructs a prediction market given machine intelligence and argues for a dramatic wage fall in the future (Hanson, 1994). James Hughes has argue that only a democratic transhumanism that ensures a liberal, equal and safe use of future technologies can bring all the potentialities of technological development. In a nutshell, technology that exists now is very advanced that people nowadays can’t take an assumption or prediction about what the future holds. The past is what shaped us today, the Agricultural Revolution and Industrial Revolution were periods of technological improvement that occured dyring the 18th early 19th centuries. In the current time, the technological revolution took place not so long ago, it was were one technology is replaced by another better technology. With the technology of producing designer babies, people will be able to choose certain characteristics such as height, colour of eyes, facial appearances, personality, and intelligences of their children. Some social scientists and doctors believe this should only be used to help treat certain diseases for babies before they are born. A Pew Research survey that was carried out last august proved that 46 percent of adults approved of genetic modification of babies to reduce the risk of serious diseases. While, the same survey found that 83 percent said genetic modification to make a baby smarter would be “taking medical advances too far”. The first designer baby was created in 2000, in the United States of America. Doctors used screening techniques to test the embryos of Lisa and Jack Nash. They chose the embryos that would be an exact cell match to their daughter Molly. Molly suffers from a genetic disorder called Fanconi Anemia which causes bone marrow deficiency. The embyro selected did not carry the disease and was a perfect tissue match. As a result, Adam Nash was born Stem cells were collected and donated to replace Molly’s bone marrow. Since the creation of Adam to save his older sister , many more couples have created their own designer baby to save their sick child or prevent their offspring from inheriting a genetic disease. On the other hand; a broader review of public opinion studies found significant opposition in countries like Germany, the U.S. and the U.K. to selecting the best embryos for implantation based on nonmedical traits like appearance or intelligence. There is even less support for editing genes directly to improve traits in so-called designer babies (Schaefer, 2016). Taking it a couple of years back before 2000, the invention of designer babies did not exist. There were procedures that modified the humans body by plastic surgeries. It all started around World War 1, the surgical records detain the groundbreaking work of Dr Harold Gillies, the pioneering plastic surgeon who developed some of the world’s first successful skin grafts during the Great War. Dr Gillies developed early plastic surgery techniques to treat seriously wounded soldiers, alloowing them to go on to live a full life as civilians (Furness, 2012). ethical , legal, social controversies loose grio in society as demands of creating such babies make its own market. However, only the rich can afford such techniques as the IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation). As such enhance humans artificially selected might become prejudiced against one another due to a feeling of lost common humanity with non enhanced groups. Also, the society will be bias towards the superior humans than the natural ones. Moreover, the future of these designer babies is still not knows. There is a wide variety of biological risks with genetic modifications. New diseases may emerge which will be difficult to prevent. One report from Children concieved through cytoplasmic transfer has been diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder where symptoms range from mild delay in speech to autism. The repercussions of using these technologies have not been adequately tested. As this technology is still in it’s starting phase in many countries, the future circumstances are failed to be recognized. Mass discrimination among humans in future can even lead to violence. In the future, people will eventually stop making designer babies and consider the risks that it comes along with.To conclude, Changing a baby through gene engineering and choosing features you prefer your own child to have almost sounds imaginary or “out of this world”. In the past, nothing of this sort existed, Dr Harold Gillies took a step foreward and developed the first plastic surgery on a soldier. People predict that eventually the making of designer babies will decrease or stop because of the risks it come along with.
