The great game Pac-Man made its first appearance in the 1980’s having the most success in Japan. The games developer Namco,  collaborated with the designer Toru Iwatani, and tried to make Pac-man mainly attract women. Together, they created the iconic game where the protagonist is a yellow ball whose main goal is to eat glowing pellets while escaping ghosts. In order to progress, all the little pellets must be eaten by the ball suggestively named Pac-Man. Surprisingly, Pac-Man was not the original name for the loveable yellow sphere;  instead, it was Puckman loosely based from the Japanese word pakupaku. PakuPaku means to open and close one’s mouth which is exactly the gameplay involved in Pac-Man. Namco and Iwatani expected very little of the game, but shockingly everyone in the 1980s loved the simplistic gameplay Pac-Man offered. In 1982, there was surprisingly 30 million players around the U.S. alone! Pac-Man will last for many decades to come because of its dramatic entry and dominance in the gameplay market during the 1980s.
