The average life expectancy for men in the US is 76, for women it is 81, that makes us the 26 best nation for life expectancy. Now that might seem like a lot of time, but in the grand scheme of things your life is actually quite short. My goal for this speech is to persuade you to fully take advantage of your life with the short amount of time we have. You will find this information to be informative and inspirational.
Steve Jobs once said, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”In this speech I will cover why you should value your time, why we live in the best time to do something with your life, and why you should step out of your comfort zone. The best thing you can do with your life is to savor the time you have.
It is that simple, but far to many of us get caught up in the stuff that life throws at us, always eager for more but never living in the moment, and never savoring the time we have on this earth. None of us are guaranteed time, we may not make it through this week, month or year. Eddie Pinero discusses his thoughts on time in his youtube video Time Motivation.”Time is all we have, this moment, right now. There’s only one thing in our lives we’re not able to reacquire once it’s gone, and i’m not talking about money, i’m not talking about material items, i’m talking about time.
And it’s such a unique concept, unique idea, because when utilized correctly it contains within it the ingredients to success, to happiness, to growth and prosperity – all the things we want. But at the very same time, if neglected, it leaves us with very little.Because the truth is every morning when you wake up, you are living minutes you will never get back. You are breathing in air you will never take in again. It’s your one opportunity to embrace this gift – And every second sees a little of it slip away. And my point is that there is no moment more important, more perfect than right now. Not in a week, not after your promotion, not in 30 years when you plan to retire and relax – right now.
” Decide to live in happiness, decide your time on earth will be spent doing the things you love with the people you love. Think about how lucky we are. To be alive in this day in age, with access to all the opportunities we could ever dream of. We are living in the most safe time period there has ever been. Richard Fisher from the BBC said in his article “Why the present day could be the best time to be alive”.”Ian Goldin and Chris Kutarna argued recently in their book Age of Discovery, we’ve never had it so good. Life expectancy, they point out, has risen more in the past 50 years than the previous 1000. The likelihood of a violent death has never been lower; on average, we’re better educated than ever, and childhood mortality has plummeted.
Among the most striking changes, the last few decades has brought remarkable successes in tackling global poverty: in 1981, almost half the people in the developing world lived below the poverty line; as of 2012, that figure had dropped to 12.7%.”We have the ability and the technology that enables the freedom to pursue any path that one might take. We are the generation with the largest ability to do what we want in life, so don’t let it go to waste and take advantage of your opportunities. You are where you are because that’s where you’ve decided to be, and if you want change, then create a plan and go, step out of your comfort zone and do something that scares you. If we stay in a bubble and don’t experience new things, then you’re not embracing what your life could really be.
It’s having the courage to step out and face the challenges and to be uncomfortable that shape us as a person, but once you get through it you understand what living really is. Which brings us right back to the concept of time. Our short time on this planet. The greatest gift a person being could receive. I will end my speech today the same way it started, a quote from Steve Jobs.
“Sometimes life’s going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”
