From many decades, immigrantshave significantly contributed to economic growth and created a more dynamicsociety. People migrated due to many factors such as changing climate andlandscape, as well as insufficient food supply but in the past, migrants weremuch fewer. Currently, people immigrate because there are favourable conditionsin the new country to encourage them; people migrate towards developedcountries to avail themselves of better opportunities regarding education, business and employment. For the purpose of this essay, immigration is defined as a number of people who live their own country to goto a destination country to live permanently. This essay will argue thatimmigration benefits society.
Firstly, immigration plays a vital role inpositive growth of economy. Secondly, high-skilled immigrants increase theproductivity of the host country. Immigration plays a dynamic part in positivedevelopment of the economy. This is because immigrants are a vital asset to theeconomy and contribute greatly to the country’s total economic output. Firstly, immigration expands the gross domestic product (GDP)of the host country.
According to Thompson (2014, p.320), from 2000 to 2010, the Singaporean population grew significantly from4.03 million to 5.08 million due to rising numbers of immigration, which has apositively impacted on the growth rate of the GDPover large time periods. Furthermore, increasing economies have more likely to impactpositively on the GDP. Thisevidence shows that immigration leads the opportunity for development of acountry, as the increase in growth rate is ultimately associated to theincrease of per capita GDP. Secondly, the contribution of immigrants decreasesthe federal budget deficit. A study by Chojnicki (2013, p.
1077), suggests thatthe global net contribution of immigration to the public budget in the year2005 was 3.9 billion euros in France. Thus, for the year 2005, an immigrant hasmade a net payment on the order of 800 euros as compared with about 220 euroson average for a native, which provides benefit in a host country by givingtaxes and use of government services for purchases and property taxes forhousing rented or owned.
Therefore, payroll taxes deducted with all those givenabove which are renewed by federal government, and this produces a helpful netinvolvement to the fiscal financial statement of the government. From thisevidence, it can be seen that workers from foreign countries contributepositively to the economic development of host country. In addition, theseimmigrants play a vital role to support host country in various ways such asincreasing work force, improve construction methods and develop latest mean oftransport and spend foreign currency in host country. Basedon the above, immigration is the main source of national income, which stimulatesthe economic development and GDP of the country. The output of a country is enhanced significantlyby high-skilled immigrants. This is because every year, government of thecountry introduces new job-related list, which the country need more in thisway immigrants helps efficiency of a country by providing skilled people fromall over the world. Firstly, immigration department offers permanent residencyand nationality to skilled immigrants as doctors, engineer and economists sothat they can settle down in their country and gain mutual benefits from eachother. According to Hanson (2012, p.
26), in between 1960 and 2000, PhD and doctoratepeople increase from one fifth to three fourth due to easy immigration policiesfor skilled persons. In addition, other people such as electrician, pharmacistsand economists also increase in number due to this reason. This evidence showsthat innovation is promoted by high-skilled immigrants as well as positive netcontribution in the government fiscal account. Regardless of many obstaclesskilled immigrants raise the productivity of host country due to the offer thatmakes immigration to stay and work in their country. Secondly, high-skilledimmigrants bring multiculturalism and workforce diversity.
According to Lu,Ying (2015, p.8), “the Australian labour force consists of 12 million people,of whom by 2010-11, 27.4 precent were born overseas. Among these overseas- bornemployed people, 59 precent were from outside the main English-speakingcountries. More specifically, among these skilled people, Chinese immigrantsaccount for a significant proportion of the Australian workforce and also theincreasing diversity in the workplace (Birrell and Healy, 2008; Shaw, 1995)”.This evidence suggests that along with knowledge and skills, Chinese immigrantsalso bring their distinct Chinese culture to the Australians workplace, whichcontributes to the creation of a diverse workforce which allows making the useof different resources, experiences, ideas to increase the creativity andinnovation. Furthermore, high-skilled immigrants needed to bring more deviationin host country. In addition, hardworking and skilled immigrants regulatedproductivity economically and socially.
To conclude, Henceforth, it is concluded that immigrationhelps a country to overcome its deficiencies by providing skilled immigrants tostay, work, travel and study in host country. Furthermore, the economy of thatcountry begin to raise gradually due to the innovation that has been created indifferent fields such as construction, medical care, commercial economy byskilled people from all around the country. In addition, foreigners playimportant role to increase the economy of that country by paying taxes andinvesting their money in that country in this way the output of countryincrease.
Many evidences and peer reviews which have been mentioned in thiseasy show that immigration has vital role to improve host country GDP.Therefore, it is clear that immigration benefits society at both national andinternational levels.
